Hello. I'm back. Its been a long strange trip indeed..... Anyway, this morning I walked out on Radio Island armed with a spinning rod and a stimgsilver. Yesterday had seen a great run of Bluefish up Bulkhead Channel and today I was all set to get my share. Ridiculous that the limit of Bluefish is set at 3 per person. For years I sat in my boat on the Cape Lookout Shoals and lorded over vast schools of 3 pound Bluefish. These black schools of ravenous Bluefish stretched for miles on some days and the great fishing lasted for months. As a matter of fact, some years I could find vast numbers of Bluefish 12 months a year. From on Wrecks from Jan to March, the Ocean Beaches in April, the Shoals ar Cape Lookout from May until December. And..... of course, nearly everywhere there's Salt Water from July through October..... THREE PER PERSON. Capt Marty Moore of the Famous Top Water Charters could get his limit of Bluefish if the limit was 300, right? Well.... not today. In about 3 hours of casting metal, I figure I made probably 400 casts... I had about 6 strikes. I caught one Spanish Mackerel at 2lbs. Nice. I caught 3 Spanish Mackerel that were about 9-10 inches and I caught a Preachers Prick. No Bluefish. I had one lure bitten off. I'm pretty certain it was a Bluefish. oh well. 99 % of the Coastal North Carolina Fishermen would rather have a Spanish Mackerel than a Bluefish. Not me. I would've preferred to have had my limit of 3 Bluefish plus a bonus Mackerel. Didn't happen, not today! Total Catch for the Day: 4 Spanish Mackerel up to 2 lbs and 1 Inshore Lizardfish
