MID SEASON COBIA REPORT

Well here it is....... I think I've done as well as anyone. I totally botched a couple of things.....  I had a day where we saw 40+ Cobia and couldn't catch but ONE! We had a day where we should've fished BAIT and we spent the entire trip SIGHTCASTING to nothing...... Other than that, in 9 Trips dedicated to Cobia Fishing, we have landed 27 Cobia including 2 over 80 lbs. Anyone want to challenge those numbers as of May 20th in the am?????? Capt Aaron Kelly doesn't count. He is the COBIA JESUS......

Lots of open dates when I get back from Hatteras. I expect the Bait Fishing to hold up nicely and I expect the other options while Cobia Fishing to pick up momentum (Jacks and Groupers)

May 28-June 1. Call Me. Let's Go

48 in 8 trips. 2 in the 80's 1 in the 90's several on the 60's. Right in your backyard.

As of May 20 pm I have 20 in 3 trips all caught anchored up and maybe burnt 10 gallons. That includes a 3hr am trip, 1 all day trip, and a 2hr pm trip. Do the math...

Well now, you boys need a blog of your own and a Capts License.....

Yep, me and my friends once caught 30 in 6 hours over 2 mornings. One was probably at 100 pounds (94 gutted the next morning), 4 in the 70s, 16 over 50 . Of course, we had a little meeting with Marine Fisheries that didn't end well....... The next day I had a bunch of moonshine drinkers from Charlotte that insisted that they do all the casting and guess what we caught? A headache.

Do the math...... Second time I heard that in 24 hours in regards to Cobia fishing. Please please Capt Marty, check the IP addresses of these 2 and let us recognize them properly

Not that it matters, but there is no such thing as "Anon" all I have to do is check the poster's IP address.

Captain Marty,

Are the king mackerel feeding in fishable numbers off nearshore wrecks yet?

Not taking anything away from Capt. Marty. This years fishing has been pretty good, he just asked someone to challenge his numbers. That's what I did...And as far as being anonymous, I've seen you around town plenty of times, and I'd gladly stop and chat with you about fishing sometime. I'm just not going to post who I am publicly and have to hear everyone's B.S.

Anon,

Other Blog Readers get more upset over this than I..... I challenged. You submitted your numbers. You win. Congratulations. You are most definitely in that 10% of fishermen that catches 90% of the fish.....See you out there. Good luck to you

Other anon,

Not sure about the Kings yet. I hear Southport is pretty good. Around the middle of June there will be enough effort directed at Kingfish to see some real results... I figure you could catch a handfull now if you tried.... Good Luck to you also

15 in 5 but you all had the hot week you should've caught 25 or 30 or 48 or whatever. We shouldn't be so obsessed with winning the cobia war or who is the best because they got to fish on the right tide of the right day during the right week.Just go fishing period and don't give a shit what everyone else is doing. It's all about confidence and skill not arrogance.Imo generally sight fishing is not nearly as productive as our traditional way of doing it.I know and have been there when it goes off but most of the time that two or three or whatever a set adds up and it's a hell of a lot cheaper.I figure anyone that can go any day they want and take the time to learn the art and it is an art of bottom fishing can totally dominate just about every time they go.
